Employee for CPD accused of sexually assaulting woman

From our News Partners at WCBD-TV:

An employee for the Charleston Police Department is accused of sexually assaulting a woman he was transporting to jail.

A Charleston Police Department Transportation Officer was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual misconduct 2nd degree.

A spokesperson for CPD says Kermit Jenkins, 43, was transporting the victim to the Al Cannon Detention Center between 2:05 and 3:03 in the morning on May 4, 2014.  The victim told police that Jenkins reached under her skirt and rubbed his fingers over her genitalia.

The victim filed a complaint with the Charleston Police Department two days later.

Jenkins was placed on administrative duties with pay on May 6 after her report and then administrative leave without pay as of May 14.  After his arrest, Jenkins was fired from the department.

He is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Jenkins was not a sworn employee.  He was hired by CPD on December 17, 2012.

The investigation is on-going.
