The Heritage Square Shopping Center in Summerville has seen better days, but soon the condemned building could get a new start.

In early September, a deal to sell the shopping center and its 14 acres of land closed. The new owner, 338 Magnum LLC, is planning to redevelop the property. Some speculate the land could be transformed into a shooting range and gun store.

Lee & Associates realtor, Jack Owens, represented the seller, Heritage Square Shopping Center LLC & Heritage Square Two LLC, in the sale of 14.2 Acres at Heritage Square. The deal also included 110,000 square feet of retail space and 32 apartments. According to deed records with Dorchester County, the Shopping Center sold for $2,680,000. The second parcel sold for $670,000.

The Town of Summerville says no official plans have been submitted at this point, but confirm engineers hired by the company have been inspecting the current structure to determine their next steps.

Well over a decade ago, the shopping center was full of stores including a Kmart and a Revco Drug Store. In October 2009, the roof collapsed. When the owner didn't repair the building, the town condemned it in February 2010.
