Mount Pleasant passes texting ban

Mount Pleasant passes texting ban

From our News Partners at WCBD-TV:

The texting ban is now official in the town of Mount Pleasant.

Town Council passed the 2nd reading Tuesday night in a 6-3 vote. The passing means any person using an electronic device to play games, text or email will be subject to a fine that can run as high as $200.

While police will probably not be cracking down immediately the law is officially in effect. The town now joins others across the state like Hilton Head, Columbia and Georgetown. For the past few years state lawmakers were trying to get a statewide ban on texting and driving but could not get it passed because of issues on how to enforce it.
