Mid-morning Friday authorities had to close the Ravenel Bridge once again due to large chunks of ice falling from the super structure of the bridge.
SCDOT officials monitored ice on the bridge throughout the day Friday.
Major Stan Gragg of the Mount Pleasant Police Department issued the following statement:
Unfortunately we are having to close the Ravenel Bridge temporarily due to large pieces of ice falling from the super structure of the bridge. Several vehicles have been impacted but there have been no injuries reported at this time. The public is being asked to take an alternate route. Charles Francis with Charleston Police Department issued this statement Friday morning:
The Ravenel Bridge is being closed because ice is falling off the super structure. Ice fell off of the super structure about 10 minutes ago and busted the windshield of a vehicle. Ice also fell in front of a Mount Pleasant Police Unit. No known injuries. SCDOT will evaluate the situation of ice falling from the super structure. Will provide you with an update as soon as possible. Charles Francis, PIO.
