SC looking to recruit more troopers

From the Associated Press:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol is looking for more troopers.

The Highway Patrol plans seven recruitment meetings across the state this month at the headquarters each of the patrol's seven troops. The first meeting was held Friday in Columbia. The second meeting will be Monday in Greenwood, with the meetings winding up Aug. 28 in Orangeburg.

The Department of Public Safety decided to hold the meetings because they need to fill 65 slots in the next training class, which begins in January.

Applicants must meet some qualifications. They have to be at least 21 years old with no criminal history, a clean driving record and live in South Carolina for at least a year.

Officials will discuss physical fitness standards, benefits and salaries for troopers at the meetings.
