Mount Pleasant Town Councilman Gary Santos held a meeting at Moultrie Middle School to address the opposed parking garage and business complex at the corner of Coleman Blvd. and Mill Street next to Shem Creek.

60 or more people showed up at the meeting, and the crowd seemed to be in agreement that the parking garage should not be built at the site.

Councilman Santos told the audience that more than $2 million of public funds is currently going to be used on the garage portion of the project. He said he will make a proposal at the next Mount Pleasant meeting to rescind those funds. He told the crowd that while he will make the proposal, but there is no guarantee that another council member will second his proposal and allow that debate.

Several times during the meeting, the citizens clapped in approval when a speaker would talk about how Mount Pleasant, and Shem Creek in particular, needs to maintain as much of the character of the area as possible.

Santos asked residents to get in touch with their council members and ask them to stop this project on Shem Creek.
