DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC - A South Carolina Highway Patrol trainee is dead and a woman is wounded after a domestic violence incident in Ladson.

Dorchester County Sheriffs Deputies said that a woman called 911 around 2 a.m. Saturday, saying her boyfriend shot her twice in the arm.

When Deputies arrived, the woman told authorities that her boyfriend, 25-year-old Douglas Moses, was drinking and then began arguing with her. The woman was able to make it to a neighbor's home where she called 911.

Captain Tony Phinney with the Dorchester County Sheriffs Office told News 2 Deputies found Moses dead inside of his home with a gunshot wound.

The Dorchester County Coroner later confirmed that it appears Moses died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

State Highway Patrol officials confirm that Moses was just weeks away from graduating from basic training to become a state trooper. Lt. Kelly Hughes said Moses started with the organization in January and was slated to graduate the beginning of May.

Hughes said he couldn't comment on Moses' disciplinary background while with the highway patrol.

The identity of the woman has not been released, but officials tell News 2 the woman is recovering at the Medical University of South Carolina with non-life threatening injuries.
