In Dorchester County, the referendum and two council races were on the ballot. The voters of Dorchester county spoke loud and clear against the Local Option Sales Tax Referendum.
With all 74 precincts reporting, 3550 people voted yes. 7070 people voted against the referendum. That's about two to one against the new tax.
In Summerville, the District 3 seat on council goes to Walter Bailey. 535 people voted for him compared to 172 for John C. Hinson.
With two seats on Harleyville's town council open, Susan s. bishop and Brenda Davis won the top two spots. Bishop earned 80 vote, Davis earned 81 and Kenneth R. Witherspoon ended the night with 36 votes.
As far as turnout is concerned, Joshua Dickard, the Dorchester County Director of Elections says, "it went smooth. No major hiccups. We had about 10%, which was more than we thought, by the time it was over."
