From our News Partners at WCBD-TV:
The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the entire area which goes into effect Tuesday afternoon and continues through Wednesday afternoon.
A strong Arctic cold front will move through the Lowcountry on Tuesday before stalling offshore. Depending on the exact timing of the front and cold air behind it, rain could develop as early as midday Tuesday before quickly transitioning to sleet and freezing rain as temperatures fall during the afternoon. By Tuesday evening, most areas will be cold enough for the wintry mix to changeover to all snow and continue into Wednesday morning.
Total snow and ice accumulations will all depend on how quickly the cold air moves in late on Tuesday. Wind chills in the single digits and low teens will follow the snow during the day on Wednesday as high temperatures struggle to reach the freezing mark. Check back for updates often as this continues to be a rapidly changing situation.
